These days, we tend to spend far too much energy focusing on what's on the surface, rather than what's inside. We wind up chasing youth and beauty through the latest fads, while zeroing in on what others think of us, rather than what really matters! Ironically, the fountain of youth can arguably be found in giving up the chase, and re-framing our relationship withourselves. Here at VIKTORIA, we are big advocates of this kind of conscious living.


We think of it in terms of skipping looking to others in our search for happiness, and rather realizing that our power is already in our own hands. In this sense, we're all about “conscious chic”! Happiness, well-being, and innerpeace are all an inside-out deal. Not sure what we mean by that?To help you connect with conscious living, here are 6 tips to get you started. All it takes is a little soul searching, and you can claim your own power and prosperity!

1. First Yourself, And Then The World 

You might have heard people use the oxygen masks on airplanes as a metaphor for life, but did you embrace the message? When the flight attendant talks you through the safety briefing before your journey commences,they will instruct you to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. This sheds some powerful light on a mistake we often make on our personal journeys. We tend to focus on pleasing others and looking after their needs before our own. It might seem good to be selfless, but in reality, it's a flawed strategy! When you look after yourself first, you will discover that you discover an abundant well of strength that you can send out into the world. When you neglect your own needs, however, you'll be running on empty before long! There is simply nothing more important than self-care, on a practical and personal level, for fostering a youthful energy within yourself that willshine from the inside-out!

2. Tune Into Your Real Values

Hand in hand with being a people pleaser, mirroring the values of others can lead us far away from our best selves. In reality, there is nothing that says you have to go with the flow, or do what everyone else is doing. Making a conscious choice to live with authenticity is, in contrast, the fastest root to inner peace! You can perform a little exercise to tune in to what really matters: Grab a pen and a piece of paper and list your values. This might include the things that you don't believe in, but also the things that you do. Do you want to treat others with kindness, or volunteer tohelp those in need? Do you want to live a low-impact lifestyle that does no harm to animals or the environment? Perhaps you want to embrace your creative nature, and help others do the same! When you recognize what you feel is important – on an emotional level – and let that guide your life choices, you will discover a level of contentment and confidence that is truly hard to beat!

3. Find Presence Through Meditation

We all spend so much time rushing from A-Z that we tend to lose ourselves along the way. Meditation can help us learn to personally re-connect. Not only that, but with regular practice, we can forge an anchor that keeps that connection sturdy and strong! In beginning your practice, notice how your mind chatters, and let those thoughts flow past you without trying to stop and hold onto them. Before you know it, you will find that your mind gets quieter, and you find it easier to enjoy the present moment. This can mean noticing so many more of the beautiful details around you, from the smell of flowers to the different forms and textures you encounter. Living in conscious presence provides the greatest form of tranquility – even when your day doesn't go to plan!

4. Fall In Love With Your Body

Your body is extraordinary. It moves and breathes as you journey through life. It can heal itself, and adapt to different lifestyles. Your body is a conduit to sensory experiences – from the feeling of the floor beneath your toes to the taste sensation of your favorite foods! We tend to get sucked into picking out “flaws” that we perceive our bodies to have, but we should really view them as a gift. And, as far as aging goes, stop trying to stop the clock! Over the last 200 years, life expectancy in the United Stateshas more than doubled. Our ancestors didn't even get the chance to worry about frown lines! Experiencing life within a human vessel and being lucky enough to age is truly miraculous, so embrace yourself, and make gratitude your attitude!

5. Connect With What Nourishes You

There's huge power to be found in clearing out your inner house, metaphorically speaking. Most of us act out of habit, without realizing that some of our go-to behaviors don't serve us! Evaluate the way you spend your time, and whether it feels good, or not. If something bothers you, can you identify why? Let go of the things within your life that don't serve you or align with your values, and replace them with some good stuff from your bucket-list! That list doesn't have to be all big things like taking a dream vacation or skydiving – it can include anything that makes you light up.

 

This might be taking a walk in nature every day, or making art just for yourself. You might want to learn a language, or dance to more live music. Perhaps you want to start your own business, or make a difference in the fight against climate change! Bringing these deep desires to the surface is the first step towards a conscious path through life. Make them even more attainable by creating your own vision board, for a visual reminder of who you want to be!

 

6. Build A Tribe of Kindred Spirits

The people we connect with can be a drain on our personal energy, or they can be a constant source of support and inspiration. We know that we'd much prefer the second!
